In May’s Scrapbook we’re highlighting one of our favourite projects from the last few months that we’re massively proud of. It involved our Design, Development and Digital Marketing experts and we’re really excited to show it off.
We’ve been so pleased to see Bristol gradually and safely reopen, not just because it’s great beer garden weather (and a lot of our team really needed haircuts), but because it means we’re closer to being able to return to the Fanatic studio.
Although our whole team has been amazing at digitally linking up while working from home, we’ve missed being able to walk across the office to discuss a project. Plus, we’ve got a lot of very exciting projects starting with new and current clients that will benefit from the three sub-teams being in one place again.
Speaking of exciting projects…
We were tasked with creating a fresh new brand to launch Claude + Clarence, a pet food company which provides natural, delicious and nutritious food for superstar pets! To start with, we carried out a brand workshop to define the brand’s voice and general visual direction.
We then went on to develop a visual tone exploring logos, colour palettes, typography and illustration. The aim of the brand was to be friendly, approachable and well-informed, a brand you can trust. The backbone of the brand is focusing on Claude and Clarence, a dog and cat that personify the brand. We created a suite of illustrations for each character to be used across all forms of collateral, including the packaging, website and social media.
With the brand in place we moved onto designing a website with eCommerce functionality, including a subscription system. The user journey needed to be clear from first click to checkout, and the visuals needed to be engaging and eye-catching.
When building the Claude + Clarence site, our Development team was determined to create a seamless and intuitive shopping experience for customers. This involved harnessing a wide range of technical skills and knowledge, but also incorporating a high level of bespoke development work to make the site even smoother for users.
– Created a custom search functionality to utilise static search page results
– Integrated with an external orders platform
– Implemented a multistage registration process with 2FA
– Created a bespoke user dashboard for tracking and management of orders and subscriptions, reward points and account details
– Extended the WooCommerce subscriptions package to offer variable subscriptions with custom frontend selection functionality
At the same time as the website was being built, the Digital team were writing content that would be used to populate the site. This content needed to be not only interesting and enjoyable to read, but also provide a seamless user experience and fulfil user needs. It also needed to be in line with the brand voice we’d established: knowledgeable, friendly and lighthearted.
Our Digital Marketing team wrote a number of informative articles for the Wellbeing section of the website. This involved wide-ranging and comprehensive keyword research to identify topics and questions that pet owners frequently search and want to know more about. We then wrote well-researched, clear and understanding articles to help our users get the best answers to their queries.
We were also asked to create content for the new Claude + Clarence Facebook and Instagram pages. We utilised the Design team’s brilliant illustrations alongside some conversational, refreshing copy to establish the brand voice. Highlighting the offer of 20% off first orders also helped to catch people’s attention and direct traffic to the site.
How have you found life at Fanatic so far?
It’s been incredible, it’s great to be part of a company that has a vast array of clients from all different industries and it’s variety that gets me excited! So far, I’ve been working on some interesting companies and cannot wait to work on more.
What were you doing before Fanatic and what made you get into Digital Marketing?
I’m a recent graduate from Nottingham Trent University in December of 2019 where I studied an MSc in Digital Marketing. After this I worked as a Digital Marketing Executive for a company called Red Box Vape, which specialises in vaping products across Europe. It was a very interesting industry to work in and taught me a lot.
What made you choose Fanatic?
Having done some research on Fanatic, it was the company culture and what the company stands for that appealed to me the most. It has a very family-like feel and being ‘the biggest small creative agency in the world’ really stood out to me. On top of this the company has worked with some impressive clients in a variety of industries.
What have you enjoyed most so far?
So far, I’ve enjoyed getting to know everyone and the level of responsibility I have been given, it definitely hasn’t been a slow start and I’ve enjoyed getting my teeth stuck into some work and have learned a lot during such a short period of time!
What are you looking forward to learning more about?
I’m looking forward to learning as much as I can within the Digital industry, but primarily everything around SEO and increasing my knowledge towards the different areas that SEO has to offer.
What’s an interesting fact about you?
I used to be part of the Thai Boxing society at Nottingham Trent University and represented them in the 95kg weight category for an interclub at the University of Warwick which 10 different universities attended.
The fight took place in front of a live audience of 400 people and was one of the most exhilarating experiences I have ever had – and I won!
